Subsidies

The Solar Initiative (tSI) offers subsidies towards the purchase and installation of various energy efficient and renewable technologies.

Heat Pump Hot Water Heaters

tSI provides a 50% subsidy, up to $2000, toward the installation of heat pump hot water heaters in Block Island residences.

Electric Lawn Equipment

tSI is offering a 50% subsidy, up to $300 per household, or up to $2000 for businesses, towards the purchase of electric lawn equipment for use on Block Island.

E-Bikes

tSI is offering a limited subsidy program towards the purchase of qualifying electric bike  for use on Block Island. 50% of the purchase price will be offset, up to a maximum of $1000 per subsidies. Subsidies are limited and applicants are asked to submit a declaration of how this ebike will help them to reduce their use of fossil fuel transportation

Photovoltaics

tSI is offering a subsidy of $1200 per kW, up to 5 kW, toward the installation of roof mounted or ground mounted photovoltaic systems on Block Island.  It's important to contact the The Solar Initiative for the  guidelines that apply to the Photovoltaic subsidy before beginning an installation.

Residential EV charger

  • 100% of charger purchase price, up to a maximum subsidy of $400

    • Payment will take the form of a rebate, offered after proof of both purchase and subsequent installation is provided to the satisfaction of tSI

  • The charger must be an SAE J1772 compliant (AC) level 2 charger

    • Alternatively the charger must be a Tesla branded and produced unit designed to work with vehicles produced by that manufacturer

    • Level 1 chargers or replacement factory charging cables are not eligible

  • This subsidy is exclusively for the purchase of the charger, not its installation

  • The charger can be hardwired, or connected via a standard NEMA connector (6-50, 14-50, etc.)

  • This subsidy is offered exclusively for residential use cases; businesses are not eligible and will not be considered for this program at this time
